During the part quarter, John Parry has been playing in
major events across Europe. He competed in the British
Amateur Championship at Royal St George's and qualified
for the knock-out stage of the event (top 64) from a field of
300 top amateurs from around the world. He was
eventually beaten by his England colleague, Jamie Moule,
who went on to reach the semi-finals. In the English
Amateur Championship, John reached the last 16 and was
only narrowly beaten by the eventual winner. In attempting
to qualify for the Open Championship, John missed out by
one shot!
However, in the European Amateur Championship in Italy,
John finished a very creditable 13th, despite the fact that
his golf clubs were not available during the practice rounds
and only arrived on the morning of the first round (any
golfer will know the significance). Nonetheless, he
completed his rounds in 6 under par, in the very best of
company, which will give him confidence as he attempts to
qualify for next year's European Tour. Also, John won the
northern region final of the U-21 UK Faldo Series early in
September 2006 and will be in the UK finals at Celtic
Manor in early October.
It's sometimes difficult to remember that John is still only
19; is the youngest member of the 10-man England Elite
Squad; and plays off a handicap of +3.
